GAF Roofing in Mentone, CA | Van Nuys Roofing Co

We provide independent GAF roofing repair, replacement, and inspection across Mentone’s 92359 zip code. The one thing that makes our GAF work here different: we know what the Santa Ana River wash does to shingles, because we’ve pulled hundreds of them off Mentone roofs and seen the exact failure pattern. We’re not a GAF dealer pushing one product line. We work with seven major manufacturers and recommend what actually fits your roof. Call (866) 321-6172 for a straight assessment.

Why Mentone Residents Choose Us for GAF Service

We know GAF’s Timberline and Royal Sovereign systems the way you know your own roof, because we’ve installed and repaired both across the Inland Empire for long enough to see how they hold up under real Mentone conditions, and we’ve also handled GAF repair in Redlands. Not lab conditions. Real heat, real wind, real grit off the riverbed. Rick Dominguez runs our operation, and his approach is simple: inspect first, recommend second. We carry GAF-branded starter strip, ridge cap, and sealant for proper repairs, and we use quality aftermarket underlayment and fasteners where they perform equally well. You get OEM-compatible work without the single-brand lock-in that most local roofers want to sell you.

We’re an independent roofing contractor. We are not authorized, sponsored, or warranty-backed by GAF. What that means for you: our recommendation is driven by your roof’s condition and your budget, not by a manufacturer’s incentive program. If it doesn’t need replacing, we’re not going to tell you it does.

Common GAF Roofing Problems We Solve in Mentone

  • Wind uplift and edge scuffing on exposed ridges. Santa Ana winds funnel through the pass and hammer the east end of the valley. On GAF Timberline installations with marginal fastening patterns, we find edge shingles lifted, seal strips broken, and ridge cap loosened long before the field shingles fail. The repair is fastening reset and edge metal replacement, not a full reroof, unless the deck underneath tells a different story.
  • Accelerated granule loss on west-facing slopes. This is the Mentone signature problem. Wind-blown sand and grit off the Santa Ana River wash sandblasts west-facing GAF shingle slopes, stripping granules and exposing bare asphalt that then cracks under 100°F-plus sun. We see this constantly on the east side toward the wash.
  • Seal-strip failure and shingle curling from heat cycling. Older Timberline and Royal Sovereign installations with marginal attic ventilation curl and lose their seal strips after years of Inland Empire heat. The shingles look bad, but the real issue is often ventilation. We fix both.
  • Leaks traced to original skip-sheathing. Many 1960s Mentone homes still run on original skip-sheathing: spaced boards instead of solid decking. Aging GAF shingles over skip-sheathing flex, fasteners back out, and leaks start where the deck moves. Patching the shingle doesn’t fix the deck.
  • Low-slope sections and detached garages. Mentone’s rural-residential mix means a lot of flat or low-slope roof sections on detached garages and outbuildings. GAF’s EverGuard TPO membrane handles those, and we install and repair it properly, including the seam details that fail when someone cuts corners.

GAF Service in Mentone: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Roof

Here’s something you won’t read on a generic GAF page. Mentone’s east-side lots toward the river wash sit in a dust-and-debris corridor, and we routinely find west-facing GAF shingle slopes there worn and de-granulated far ahead of the rest of the roof. On a 1960s home off the east side near the wash, we found the west-facing Timberline slope stripped of granules and edge-worn while the shaded north plane still looked serviceable. Pulling the worn shingles exposed original skip-sheathing that had flexed loose. We re-decked that section, reset fastening for wind uplift, and installed new Timberline HDZ with fresh ridge cap and edge metal. The pattern: sun ages all shingles, but wind-blown grit from the riverbed eats west-facing Mentone roofs years faster, similar to what we see with GAF in Yucaipa. If your home sits on the east side, your west slope is the canary.

That’s also why Class A fire-rated assemblies matter out here. The foothill wildfire interface is real, and ember-resistant detailing, the right underlayment, and proper edge metal aren’t optional upgrades on a Mentone reroof. They’re the difference between a roof that survives ember fall and one that doesn’t.

GAF Models & Products We Service in Mentone

We service Timberline HDZ and UHDZ architectural shingles, Royal Sovereign three-tab shingles, and EverGuard TPO membrane for low-slope and flat sections. For repairs, we match GAF shingles with GAF-branded starter strip, ridge cap, and sealant where they matter, and use quality aftermarket underlayment and fasteners where they perform equally well. GAF Service Pricing in Mentone

GAF shingle replacement in Mentone typically runs $4.50 to $7.00 per square foot, depending on roof complexity, slope, and whether re-decking is required. Leak repair jobs start around $350 and go up based on what we find underneath. Full re-decking over skip-sheathing adds material and labor, and we’ll show you the line-item breakdown before any work starts, so there’s no mystery. What drives cost in Mentone: small, irregular roof planes (common on half-acre-plus rural-residential lots), detached garage outbuildings, and the re-decking many 1960s-era homes need. Schedule a free estimate at (866) 321-6172 and we’ll walk the roof with you. Our estimates are free, and the written quote is the price.
